Learning Manifiesto

People learn how to develop their skills through a process, time and strategies, we are in the 21th century where everything is possible through technology, I strongly believe that we have in our hands the keys to help others to develop their abilities keeping the experiences that we have in order to design plans or strategies that can contribute to the learner to reach their goals. As a teacher, I am the support to build up a solid foundation in their academic growth to make connections to reach the next step in their learning journey.

I am passionate in the belief that sometimes we can do things and they do not turn out as we wanted but we have the opportunity everyday to make the difference by trying until you get the result that you want. A time ago I asked myself, why do I teach? I am passionate about teaching and helping little people develop their stories, my mission is that my students believe that if they want it they can get it. This is one thought that I would like to share.

There is an aspect that we need to keep in mind it is the emerging issues related to digital learning, I consider that it is not a problem only in the state of texas, also is across the country and the word, because schools are not using the resources like digital learning in an effective way, therefore, schools have been implementing new online resources which most teachers had never been trained for. These events posed even more challenges for teachers and students, and resulted in greater learning gaps appearing in students and more tension for everyone involved.

What I am trying to say is that technology is the future and every student should be given the opportunity to have it in schools even at home too and use it to learn from it but it is necessary to create a learning environment appropriate for them. Without a doubt, it gives learners choice, ownership and voice through other opportunities that will help learners learn how to learn. If we really want to get authentic learning opportunities to work effectively, according to (Harapnuik, 2018) there are things that we need to put in practice as the COVA models:

Choice.

The choice in the project needs to be genuine. I will create a choice board in which students can select the tasks that are most meaningful and relevant for their success.

Ownership.

How can I help students to “own” their learning? I will have them personalized learning goals using smart goal setting strategy and then reflect on and refine those goals regularly.

Voice.

How can I support students to have a voice and role in the classroom so that they can feel value as a part of the learning activity? I will create specific roles for each student during group work.

Authentic.

The authentic aspect is very important, it is the student voice and that voice is transformative because it is the point where we know what the learner has learned and how this has made them use their work differently or in a better way.

There is no limit to teaching others, no matter in which grade levels they are or if they are students with economic needs, they can always learn but as teachers we have the responsibility of providing them the optimum opportunities and learning conditions. Honestly, I am convinced that everything is possible if you believe strongly in it. To achieve goals in life there are principles to keep in mind like perseverance, discipline, effort and passion.The growth mindset is based on the belief that your basic qualities are things you can cultivate through your effort, your strategies, and help from others (Dweck, 2016, p.6).
